He was born in Istanbul in 1971. He completed his Bachelor's degree in Psychology and his Master's degree in Clinical Psychology at Istanbul University, and earned his PhD at Universidad Azteca in Mexico with a dissertation on 'Self-Harm and Dissociation'.
Between 1997 and 2013, he worked as a clinical psychologist–psychotherapist in various clinics and hospitals. Between 2000-2011, he conducted individual psychotherapy and group psychotherapy in the neurosis and psychosis units, both inpatient and outpatient, at the French Lape Hospital, and administered psychoanalytically oriented TAT and Rorschach tests.
Between 2011-2014, he continued his work at Memorial Ataşehir/Suadiye Hospital. His main areas of work focus on: relationship problems, eating disorders, addiction and self-harm behavior (self-mutilation/self-injury), and self-harm behaviors during adolescence. Fatih Sönmez is also the author of the book “Self-Harm,” published in 2011. He has delivered training and seminars at various universities in Istanbul on these areas of expertise, and has published articles in psychology journals.
Providing psychotherapy in the field of ‘Family and Couple Therapy’ with the Imago Couple Therapy Technique, Fatih Sönmez has completed the “Family Counseling Training” and has received the title of “Family Counselor”.
Since 2000, he has participated in numerous conferences and seminars and has continued his own personal analysis. Since 2012, he has been providing psychotherapy services for adults and adolescents at the Pandemos Psychotherapy Center, which he founded. He also provides training in his areas of specialization. He is a member of the Turkish Psychologists Association and the Rorschach and Projective Tests Association.
